About YSP

Since 1975, YSP has worked with youth and families in the greater Humboldt
Park
community. YSP's initial
programming responded to community concerns about the impact of drugs on
youth in the neighborhood. Since that time, YSP has continued to help
young people and families overcome challenges. Today, YSP also provides
positive alternatives for youth in the neighborhood. Through a spectrum
of enrichment opportunities, YSP meets youth's needs while focusing on
young people's interests, assets and strengths. YSP works with youth
rather than for youth, through program offerings in three core areas: education, recreation, intervention, prevention, arts and culture, community building, and diversion.
YSP's career development programs offer job readiness training,
tutoring, GED classes, as well as initiatives in multimedia arts and
entrepreneurship. Through health services, YSP works with youth and their
families to overcome difficulties and stabilize lives. And, programs
focusing on community building engage youth, their families and the
community at large in activities that benefit the lives of young people.
Mission
Youth Service Project, Inc. is dedicated to creating a nurturing
environment that promotes self-awareness, accountability and respect. By
identifying and providing educational and supportive resources, YSP
strives to enhance the quality of life for youth, families and the
community.
Community
YSP is located in the Humboldt
Park community of Chicago.
Known for the beautiful park where it got its name, Humboldt
Park lies in the northwest
section of the city. The neighborhood is rich in history and cultural
diversity, embracing people from all walks of life. Residents, along with
organizations and political leaders, are dedicated to the continual
improvement of this community. In fact, Humboldt
Park is one of the only
communities within the city that has a 5-year strategic plan developed
and implemented by various politicians, residents, community agencies,
religious organizations and local businesses.
